La Chine a acheté plus de 80 % du pétrole expédié par l'Iran en 2025, soit une moyenne d'environ 1,4 million de barils par jour, selon Kpler.

Des personnes proches du système ont déclaré qu'environ 2 à 2,5 milliards de dollars ont transité par un véhicule à usage spécial (SPV) au cours de l'année écoulée.

Environ 70 % des recettes pétrolières iraniennes gérées par ce mécanisme plus large seraient destinées à des projets d'infrastructure. Le reste est utilisé pour payer les entreprises chinoises qui fournissent des marchandises à l'Iran.

Le système fonctionnerait depuis au moins 2021, aidant initialement l'Iran à obtenir des médicaments et des vaccins contre le COVID-19.
