Irans Revolutionsgarde erklärte am Mittwoch, sie habe ballistische Raketen auf einen von den USA genutzten Militärstützpunkt nahe Al Azraq in Jordanien abgefeuert und 10 Schiffe nahe der Straße von Hormus angegriffen.

Jordanien teilte mit, seine Luftabwehr habe 18 Raketen abgefangen, während zwei in unbewohnten Gebieten einschlugen. Es wurden keine Verletzten gemeldet. Ein US-Vertreter erklärte, der Angriff sei wirkungslos gewesen und alle amerikanischen Truppen seien wohlauf.

Die Angriffe folgten auf eine US-Operation, bei der am Dienstag fünf iranische Öltanker zerstört wurden. Washington erklärte, die Aktion sei nach iranischen Raketenangriffen auf ein Kriegsschiff der US-Marine erfolgt. Es wurden keine Amerikaner verletzt.

Der Iran drohte auch Tankern in kuwaitischen und bahrainischen Häfen. Eine Quelle für maritime Sicherheit erklärte, ein LNG-Tanker sei im Hafen von Khor Fakkan in den VAE beschädigt worden, die Verantwortung dafür sei jedoch unklar.
