Ein dreister Raubüberfall auf ein Museum am frühen Morgen erhöht den Druck auf Frankreich, die Sicherheit rund um seine Kulturschätze zu verschärfen.

Zwei Diebe brachen am frühen Dienstag in das Renoir-Museum an der französischen Riviera ein und entkamen mit zwei Gemälden von Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Nach dem Auslösen der Alarmanlage traf die Polizei ein, was eine Verfolgungsjagd auslöste, die damit endete, dass zwei weitere gestohlene Leinwände im Museumsgarten zurückgelassen wurden.

Wichtigste Details

Die Diebe drangen kurz vor 6 Uhr morgens ein, indem sie ein Loch in den Gartenzaun schnitten, bevor sie durch ein Fenster ins Innere gelangten.

Die gestohlenen Werke „Madame Colonna Romano“ und „Junge Frau am Brunnen“ gehören dem Pariser Musée d'Orsay und waren eine Leihgabe an das Renoir-Museum.

Die Diebe entwendeten auch „Madame Pichon“ und „Coco beim Lesen“, das Renoirs jungen Sohn Claude zeigt. Beide wurden wiedergefunden, nachdem sie während der polizeilichen Verfolgung fallengelassen worden waren.

Das Museum, das im ehemaligen Anwesen von Renoir untergebracht ist, zeigte 13 Renoir-Gemälde sowie rund 40 Skulpturen, Möbelstücke und Fotografien.

Warum es wichtig ist

Ein Bericht des französischen Parlaments stellte diesen Sommer fest, dass es den Museen an Ressourcen mangelt und sie schlecht auf den Schutz wertvoller Sammlungen vorbereitet sind. Eine Umfrage des Kulturministeriums aus dem Jahr 2024 ergab, dass nur eine von vier Institutionen über einen Notfall- und Risikopräventionsplan verfügte, während fast der Hälfte eine Videoüberwachung fehlte.
